Insurance 101: Cost-Free And Obligation-Free!

Many years ago, I exclusively wrote disability, long term care, and life insurance. This was long before I expanded my practice to include all lines of property and casualty insurance.

Because I was very successful at writing disability coverage – it is my favorite line of insurance to write – my professional association asked me if I was willing to teach classroom courses to other agents for disability insurance. I readily agreed. There has always been a need for individuals and businesses to protect themselves with quality coverage in case of major illnesses and accidents.

Simply put, there can never be too many representatives recommending disability coverage. Even before these classes, veteran agents came to me seeking my advice and input in designing coverage for their clients.

When I started to teach an industry-approved 13-week classroom course, I was somewhat surprised to hear such pushback and negativity from the agents about the process of successfully underwriting a disability insurance program in the field. Many, if not most, agents felt it was not worth their time. I was determined to show them that making sure people had disability coverage was an important part of representing clients and protecting their income.

Out of the first class of 15 agents, only two had any positive results. So, I made the following statement to all the students: that by the end of the 13-week program, everyone would achieve a successful outcome in policy delivery. Sure enough, that’s what happened! Over the next five years, as I taught this course to many different agents, the positive results continued.

Even so, to this day, very few agents and even fewer insurers have continued writing disability insurance at all levels. Thirty to forty years ago, I represented six insurers who wrote disability insurance. Today it is only two.

Now, rather than working with agents, I want to bring my knowledge and experiences directly to you so that you can make informed decisions to develop your insurance coverage and protect your income and assets.

With these past few years of COVID and the shift in how people interact and communicate with each other, I feel it is time for me to work directly with small groups of people, and address not only questions about disability insurance, but long term care and life insurance as well.
