Ways to Save on Your Auto Insurance
This April, I don’t have to remind you that we live in uncertain times.
We are currently facing world upheaval - so much has happened in just the last two months! - with gas price increases spiking more than a dollar in the last month alone. The availability of auto parts and high labor costs, along with the price of vehicles have become uncertain as well. All of these things will continue to affect our decisions - where we may take our vacations, whether we purchase a car, and what our auto insurance may cost. This last decision is something we can help you with.
Every dollar counts, so people are asking our agency how they might receive discounts on their insurance plans.
Here are some possibilities that may apply to you:
“Bundle” your insurance plans: combine your homeowners or renters and your auto insurance coverage with one insurer when possible to receive a discount.
Low mileage discounts: depending on the insurer, it is generally less than 10,000 miles per year driving your car.
Student discounts: under some auto insurance plans, if you maintain a B average or better, you may receive a discount.
Liability insurance: increase your liability insurance limit as much as possible. This might sound surprising, but insurers don’t like minimum liability limits, and they charge a lot more proportionally. You’ll have far greater financial protection and peace of mind with increased coverage.
Driving and auto safety. Your driving habits make a difference to your car's performance. Bad driving can increase wear on brakes and tires, so take it easy on the road. You will save money by reducing speeds and taking shorter trips whenever possible. Make sure you maintain your car with the regular maintenance schedules, including oil changes and inspections, for peak efficiency.
Would it surprise you that the value of your vehicle is not a huge factor in your insurance premiums? While a subcompact is less expensive to insure than a huge truck or a costly electric vehicle, your driving record is a far bigger factor in the cost of your insurance premiums.
Speeding tickets, auto safety violations, and accidents: these all affect your premiums. And it can take years, without further violations, to reduce your premiums after such assessments. We want you to have the best driving record so you can save the most money, as well as to be a good driver!
Even though the current times are economically extraordinary, we never know when and how insurance premiums may be affected by world events–whether pandemics, war, or transportation disruptions due to natural disasters. Insurance premiums are based on these factors, no matter where they occur.
Help protect yourself from the unexpected, and not only by having the car insurance coverage that is right for you. Remember that safety counts, so think about driving a vehicle you can easily handle.
Understand the pluses and minuses of your purchase overall–not only the wow factor of a make and model you love, but what the longer-term costs may be. Factor in not only the purchase price, but the longer-term costs and savings that it may offer you.
Remember—we are here for you when you need us. As an independent insurance agency, we work hard to get you the coverage that is right for you. It may even be for the car of your dreams!
